As the Whitley County Judicial Center Project Development Board began looking for sites to accommodate the new building, one obvious location was adjacent to the existing courthouse. This location would require the City of Williamsburg to relocate from their undersized building into a new facility.
Various options were analyzed including the renovation of an existing historic structure and new construction. Murphy Group Architects created conceptual layouts with complete cost opinions for both. This allowed the City to develop a basis for the cost of relocation and to assess available sites.
Ultimately, the City chose to build a new facility on a downtown site, which allowed them to remain visible and accessible to the community.
